Pat Rocco is most noted for his transitional gay films of the late 1960s shown at Los Angeles' famous Park Theatre. SPREE membership was open to both the gay and non-gay Los Angeles community, and served as a social outlet for members, an avenue for promoting Pat Rocco films, discovering new models, and, in particular, producing the most fabulous of local theatre with gays and straights, male beefcake, and drag queens as cast members. The "Society of Pat Rocco Enlightened Enthusiasts" (now long defunct) was founded in January, 1969 by Dick Winters, Jim Kepner, and Chuck Robinson in honor of Pat Rocco, gay filmmaker and photographer.
